Alexander Hamilton, a delegate to the Constitutional Convention and major author of the Federalist papers, was the United States' first secretary of the treasury. While serving in the Treasury, he founded found the first national bank, the U.S. Mint and the Revenue Cutter Service, a tax collection bureau that would later become the U.S. Coast Guard. Hamilton was killed in 1804 in Weehawken, New Jersey by Aaron Burr, the Vice President at the time. His son, Phillip Hamilton was killed in the same spot 3 years earlier defending his fathers honor.
